On March 15, 1964, Mary Simpson (White, Female, age 12) was last seen walking from a family member’s residence in Elmira, New York, at approximately 7pm. Simpson’s remains were located on March 19, 1964, in a wooded area off an old logging road commonly used as a lovers’ lane just outside the city by children playing in the area.

Simpson’s remains were concealed underneath multiple large rocks with the heaviest weighing approximately 110 pounds. Simpson had experienced sexual trauma.

Offender Alfred Raymond Murray (White, Male, age 32) now deceased as of March 16, 2004, was exhumed on November 5, 2025. Murray’s DNA was compared to evidence discovered at the crime scene and was confirmed a match.

Murray was employed by the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1959.

Murray was also a truck driver for a moving company named Mayflower Van Lines. Murray lived or was known to travel in New York.
