Daniel Vern Alcantra
Justice for Daniel Vern Alcantra — the trail went cold in 1985, but the truth hasn't.
Start here
Why were the horses found on the opposite side of the river with signs of trauma? Did they cross the river, and if so, what happened to Daniel?
What is the exact distance and difficulty of the river crossing between the hunting camp and where the horses were found?
The boot was found separately from the horses—does this suggest Daniel may have been swept downstream, or did he remove it for another reason?
Daniel Vern Alcantra, a 36-year-old hunter, disappeared on August 13, 1985, while riding horses from a hunting camp in Alaska's remote Upper Cheshnina River area. The next day, his two horses and dog were found alive on the south side of the Kotsina River with signs of distress, and one of his boots was discovered nearby, but Daniel himself was never located despite extensive searches. The circumstances suggest a possible accident involving the river crossing, but without a body or definitive evidence, questions remain about what happened during those critical hours.
