On June 8, 1999, the bodies of Ronald Owen Hard Heart and Wilson Edison Black Elk, Jr. were discovered on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, several hundred yards north of the Nebraska-South Dakota border near White Clay, Nebraska. Both victims, residents of the reservation, were last seen on June 6, 1999 on the main road from White Clay to Pine Ridge. Authorities determined both were murdered.
